Remember me?

You know, I’m that girl who used to write reasonably regular posts about fluffy, frivolous, wonderful things? I haven’t been around for a while…? Well, it’s not because fluffy, frivolous and wonderful things have not been happening to me, or even that I didn’t want to share said fluffy, frivolous wonderment with you all. It’s just I hadn’t fully appreciated how much time it takes to write a PhD thesis and conduct a final experiment at once. (I’ll give you a hint: everyone is getting tired of me whining about stalk-eyed flies. Hell, I’m even boring myself). Add job hunting into the mix (a few exciting opportunities on the horizon at the moment, that I don’t want to share just in case I jinx them!) and my poor little blog didn’t really stand a chance. To be honest, things are going to be intermittent on here for the next month or so, but at some point in the future I promise that full service will be resumed!

So anyway, what have you all been up to this last month? What did I do…

♥  I turned 26! Yep, I am officially into the second half of my twenties. And yet the double glazing salesman who came to the door the other day still asked if my parents were in… Oh well, I celebrated my birthday by riding rollercoasters at Thorpe Park, so perhaps he had grounds. FYI, Swarm is AMAZING.

♥  Chris and I went to that Bruce Springsteen gig in Hyde Park. The one that was in all the papers because they turned the sound off on The Boss. At 10:40pm on a Saturday night. While he was playing Twist And Shout with Paul McCartney. A travesty!! But still an incredible gig, and a very moving tribute to former sax man Clarence Clemons. To add insult to injury, Hyde Park have extended the noise curfew to 1am for the Olympic jamborees tonight… for Snow Patrol. *disgusted silence*

♥  I taught myself to crochet. More on this story later, but suffice to say that I am now churning out blankets and cushions faster than anyone in my house can raise a protest, shamelessly encouraged by BioElle. Next on my project list is a crochet jumper. Because I figure the weather will definitely stay sunny if I make knitwear. Sod’s law and all that…

♥  I converted to the Dark Side. Of cameras. That is to say, I converted from my borrowed Canon 450D to a Nikon D5100. Again, more to come on this, including an ode to the 35mm lens. This little button lens has usurped the place that the 50mm used to hold in my heart. Watch out for some seriously gratuitous aperture.

Oh these? They were a cheeky birthday present to myself :) .

Tomorrow I am off to an event called Frockcycle in Forest Hill, which promises to be a great day of crafty clothing customisation and upcycling. Just the thing for me in my current crafty frame of mind!

Brb, much love

xxx
